WHAT DOES THE SOCIETY OF CONSTRUCTION LAW HONG KONG DO?

Holds meetings, lectures and social events. 

Publishes papers presented to the Society. 

Supports educational bodies, in particular by sponsoring an annual prize for outstanding performance in the HKU SPACE Postgraduate Diploma in Construction Law and Arbitration.

Generally promotes interest in construction law.

HOW LONG HAS IT BEEN IN EXISTENCE?

The Society was formed in Hong Kong in March 2000. Our sister body in the UK was formed in 1983.

HOW MANY MEMBERS ARE THERE?

About 250 members.

WHO RUNS IT AND WHAT IS THE STRUCTURE?

An elected Council comprising not more than 16 members. There are 5 Officers, who are also members of Council.

WHEN DOES IT MEET?

In Hong Kong, the Council meets monthly, generally on the first Tuesday of the month (excluding January).

An Annual General Meeting is held every year between April and June.

Seminars, lectures and social events are held throughout the year. You will find the speakers and subjects detailed on the Events page. Many of these talks qualify for Law Society of Hong Kong CPD points, and are suitable for accruing CPD for other professional organisations.

DOES IT PUBLISH ANYTHING?

Papers from many meetings are published and issued free to all current members and attendees, and may be purchased by others. A list of papers is available.

DOES IT HAVE SOCIAL EVENTS?

Yes, for example the AGM, held in May every year, is followed by cocktails, and usually and address. Recently, we have also begun arranging luncheon meetings with a speaker, to which members and their guests may come. In addition refreshments are served, either before or after a number of meetings.

ARE THERE ANY OTHER BENEFITS IN JOINING?

AM I ELIGIBLE TO JOIN?

Yes, if you are interested and professionally involved in construction law. Members come from all sectors of the construction industry, for example, architects, engineers, surveyors, contractors, developers, solicitors, barristers, arbitrators and experts.

CAN I COME ALONG TO A MEETING BEFORE I DECIDE?

Yes, you are most welcome to come as a guest of a member.

HOW DO I JOIN?

As part of your application, you will need to pay the joining fee and first year's subscription in advance. They will both be refunded in full in the unlikely event that your application is rejected.
