AI in Arbitration: Hype or Hyper-reality?

Andrew will consider the potential of AI to impact how disputes are arbitrated and whether it can and should lead to greater collaboration between parties. He will also consider the space it may provide for arbitral tribunals to be more interventionist and whether such is an opportunity which should be grasped or avoided, bearing in mind the observations of Sir Robin Knowles in the P&ID v Federal Republic of Nigeria case from 2024 and in Sir Robin's 2025 Roebuck Lecture.

Andrew Goddard KC specialises in the law of commercial obligations, professional negligence and international arbitration, particularly in the context of disputes concerning major construction, infrastructure and energy projects.

Andrew is based in Hong Kong and is listed as a leading silk in Construction and International Arbitration by The Legal 500, the Chambers UK Bar Guide, The Legal 500 Asia-Pacific, the Chambers Asia-Pacific Guide, the Chambers Global Guide and Who’s Who Legal. He is also listed in The Legal 500’s Private Practice Powerlist 2023: Arbitration, Hong Kong.

He has appeared in numerous disputes referred to arbitration under the auspices of the ICC, HKIAC, SIAC, VIAC, LCIA, and the LMAA and also has experience of investor-state disputes. Andrew is currently exploring how the use of AI may impact the presentation and resolution of disputes.

Andrew has been appointed to the BICAM Panel of Arbitrators, AIAC Panel of Arbitrators, HKIAC Arbitrator List and Panel of Emergency Arbitrators and is also on the LCIA Database of Arbitrators. He has also been admitted on an ad hoc basis to the Bars of Hong Kong, Trinidad and Tobago, and Tanzania.
