The theme for this year’s conference is Money Talks – Payment & Cash Flow in Construction. Over the past few years, the world has experienced remarkable events from significant geo-political changes to global lockdown due to the pandemic. Hong Kong is not shielded from these events which have increased the challenges faced by its construction industry in running projects, from difficulties in procurement, increased costing to getting paid. This year’s conference will explore issues arising from these challenges and how we can be better prepared to cope with these challenges. We are delighted to announce that Mr James Lee, First Vice-President, Hong Kong Construction Association will be our Keynote Speaker.

Morning Session 1 - Security of Payment and adjudication, managing the contract, cash flow & disputes under the new regime
A review and discussion on the Hong Kong Government’s implementation of security of payment provisions into public works contracts and what it means for the construction industry in terms of contract management, cash flow and dispute resolution; and a sharing of adjudication experience in the UK and Malaysia.

Morning Session 2 -Insolvency in contractual chain - impact and implications on cash flow & recovery

How might the insolvency of an employer or a contractor of any tier affect the cash flow and the progress of a construction project? What are the challenges in the recovery of outstanding payments for works carried out or goods and services supplied in the event of insolvency of an employer or a contractor of any tier in a construction project? How might these challenges be addressed?

Afternoon Session 3 -Insights on recent important cases & law developments in construction

Opting into rights of appeal and consolidation in arbitration? How do these affect industry players and stake holders going forward?

Afternoon Session 4 - Procurement & costing - challenges facing the industry

How might such challenges affect employers and contractors in any given construction project? How can such risks be managed, practically or contractually?
