Description:

David Thomas QC has a global construction and engineering practice. He has been instructed in some of the biggest and highest profile construction cases in the world both in litigation and international arbitration. This includes the Shard, Wembley Stadium, the London Olympic Stadium, and the Burj Khalifa.

David is described as “a popular choice” by the Legal 500 Asia 2017 Guide. His recent work in Asia covers Korea, Hong Kong, Singapore, Vietnam and Kazakhstan. He is a “very modern silk” with an approach based on professionalism, teamwork and building relationships. He is well known for his forceful advocacy, “cross examination skills second to none”, commercial awareness and the clarity and practicality of his advice.

In the UK he has recently been acting on the termination of a long term PFI waste management contract and the
termination of a design and build contract for an energy from waste plant as well as disputes relating to motorways and other infrastructure. Reported decisions in recent months have been: Mailbox v Galliford Try [2017] EWHC 1405 and ICL v Hitachi Zosen Inova [2017] EWHC 2633. Current international arbitration work includes disputes relating to a coal fire power station, a gas refinery, the conversion of an FPSO, and tall buildings in the Middle East and Kazakhstan.
